Now mind you this is kind of like a rough draft... I know things are missing.... like the corner triangles. I was thinkin of making 4 patches and cutting them in half to fill the spots - or not...... But this is the on point version, and it should only need a small border.
Here is the straight setting - it will need a border for sure, as it is 45 x 54 and I need it at least 55 x 65
So which do you like better?

On point settings always make the quilt more interesting to me. Plus, you get a few more inches out the same amount of blocks.

WOW! On point. Definitely on point. I'm glad you did this as it points out the bang of an on point setting and I was fooling around with which setting to use for a current quilt. The impact is really big when it's on point. Worth the extra effort.

I definitely like the on point version. I love the idea of the corner blocks you mentioned too. Dark blues would really set it off.

On-point. And I agree 100% of the 4-patch halves for the setting triangles. And I hope it goes without saying, but I remember the upsetting moment I had when I literally cut straight down the middle of a block to use as a setting triangle INSTEAD of allowing for that additional seam allowance! Ugh! So....as to not kick myself, I simply have to insist on saying this even if you already know-----be sure to leave enough seam allowance so your setting tris aren't too small.
**sigh**...there I feel better...I would feel terrible if you went through the same disastrous frustration I did :0)
Oh, and BTW-----I LOVE this quilt!
On point looks better, true, but as a Libra, I feel compelled to say that if the straight setting gets done faster, go for it!

I agree, on point. And I like the alternate 4-patch made with 4 darker squares.
On point takes an "ordinary" quilt to new levels. MUCH more striking.
Sorry to say that On Point looks a zillion times better. I know that it will take a lot more work to get to completion, but will be worth it in the end :) I've never made an o.p. quilt because of the extra work, but love to admire other's who are more brave than I am!
