A Scrappy Design Wall

 My blocks on my design wall are growing... a Little...

Do you ever notice that when you start to spend more time doing one part of the process, the rest sorta takes a break?

I have been Machine Quilting like crazy - so I notice my piecing has slowed down... but its all good.... 

on the right side are the half squares that were the cut offs of my pineapple blossom RSC - so now all of those blocks are done -I have 32... that's an odd number to figure out a setting - but I see lots of play time with them.

Oh! Someone asked what size I made the blocks - 9 1/2 inches square.... why? thats the ruler I have!

I must have cut a bunch of extra strips for my Pineapple blossom - as the string blocks are made from the strips that are left in the bucket... I wonder what I was thinking when I was cutting?

I hope it was good thoughts.... hmmmm

Pineapple Blossom RSC FINISH!!! ... and Finished ( or not) Friday!!

 I buckled down, I stayed up late, I gave up caffeine. ( I feel like this may be two truths and a lie!... guess which it is??)

and I got my 2021 RSC Quilt DONE!! Bound and Everything!!! DONE!! Finished!!!

Since it is the Pineapple Blossom Block - and for some reason I am hung up on Pineapples... I really really really wanted to quilt pineapples on it!!

And So!!! I did!! 

This one just makes me happy - Its so bright - and against our brown fields 

( No moisture to speak of for a REALLY long time - 235 days I think in Denver)  

the colors pop!

And of course!!! I used Flannel for the backing - It kinda looked Batiky - so I liked it!!

And it is warm and snuggly!!!!

And! I Did a blog post every day this week... I am not sure about 31 whole days tho - I'm kinda boring...

Day 6 - off to Boston and the Duck Boats

 

We headed off to Boston. Another place I had never been. So I decided we needed to take a tour!

 The clock tower with Birds flying all around - we sat a watched it for a minute while we waited for our tour. Also - there was a gentleman that was taking ship rides, and he just started talking to us like we were his long lost friends. It was kinda strange, and kinda interesting - and after 10 minutes - I wanted to make him stop talking and he never took a breath.

When I was a kid - we had a neighbor - and when she got tired of me and my brother she would say - I think I hear your Mom calling you - and we would head home.

This gentleman took a breath - and I said - I think I hear your Mom calling you. And he looked up and just started walking away......   My husband laughed at me - he said I have never seen *that* work before.....

Anyways - the Duck Boat!!!!  It is a replica of a WWII amphibious vehicle - and they are not very wide. It is a good thing I like K because we sat awful close to each other!!!

Our tour guide was Dr Ben Avery Ware... as in Been everywhere - haha!! 

He was awesome - but my favorite thing he said was - when I point something out - and I tell you it is historical - you just need to Ohhh and ahhh about it... 

Which is just what I tell my family they must do each time I show them fabric or a quilt, or now - a Hat... I need the ooohhhs and ahhhsss people!

I am sure this was historic... ( ohh and ahh people!!) I just can't remember what he said it was.... I am so sad.

So for the tour - you drive around town and learn SO much history. Dr Ben was Ah!!! Mazing!! and then you get to take a dip into the water!!!!!!!

It was still Fall there,.   Fall kinda came one day and the next everything was barren in Colorado - so I was LOVING all the color here!!!  

Maybe some year I will come *fall* in Boston  ( you know like people winter in Arizona)

Sam the Seagull kept an eye out on me, I think Puppy told him I spill a lot - and if your fast - you can have a snack!

our Duck Boat was awesome!!!  and after that we headed to lunch ( or Linner) 

K had Lobster Mac and Cheese. We weren't real sure what to expect - but that looked kinda funny to me!

I had scallops - not as fun to take a picture of  - but definitely yummy!

We walked around town for a but - we saw important people. Did you know Sam Adams funded the revolution?  it seems like we saw a lot of statues of him - but I forgot to count how many.

you can be a part of the Boston Tea Party and join a Son of the Revolution. then you can throw tea overboard!  we didn't - the museum was closed - but we liked seeing the ships

Funny enough - in Boston it was harder to find Gluten Free Restaurants than it was in Newport. And we did search. I finally found a place that served pizza of all things that was in walking distance from our hotel.  

and by walking - you know it was more than a mile. K doesn't hold back  haha!!

the * Quiltygirl ® * Trademark

 

I first started working for myself in 1995 when I started a Clothing Business - I  immediately Trademarked the name, and the two subsidiary's and off I went.... 

Until - I found Quilting - and then I sold off those businesses and kept Quiltygirl - the name I made up in 2003... and got the website and tried like heck to keep up with all other forms of Social Media... until I couldn't.

Here is my Business advice - trademark your name.

It is a little frustrating when someone uses your name and says - well - its just a word

Well - not really - its just a word that I made up ( with my kids) and its just a word that is the name of my Business - it feels a little personal 

And that is why I am glad that I have the Registered Trademark on the name.

And proof that I care about my Identity... now....

if I could just figure out how to keep up with all the social media outlets .....I truly love Blogging the best!

Day 5 - The Cliff Walk

 When we arrived in Newport - I asked the man at the Hotel desk - what is an easy walk in the morning. He said go do a little of the Cliff Walk - but when it runs out of pavement, turn back.....

Hmmm

So we checked it out , walked on it for a little bit, but on Day 5 I said - I want to Walk the Whole Thing - 

and so we did... but after the trail ran out you could still keep going, it was just rocky in parts, and wet ( from the ocean) in others, and you were following these little 5 inch disks towards the end - that just sorta led you  in the direction you should go.

It was a blast - and our whole walk was 8 miles, and I deserved a chocolate after that!

Oh but my, how it was GORGEOUS!!!  Get a coffee - there are a LOT of photos.

This is how the trail started - seems easy enough right? And it was - So Beautiful. It goes behind all of the Mansions - so you can see their beach views.  Some of the mansions are easy to see, others have huge hedges grown up so you really can't see. I like the idea of hedges, but I think in Colorado at my house - they would attract snakes in the summer, and then I would have to move, and it would be sad.

Proof that we were there. And funny enough - that day - was warm enough for T shirts!!

This is one of the mansions - but now it belongs to the college in Newport and! it is a residence hall. I so want to attend there - just to live in that mansion!!

I think If I didn't love where I live, an ocean view would be my next choice!

This is the back view of our summer cottage! Its the back view of the Breakers!! I am claiming it, I mean - if I say it is mine, surely someone will start to believe me right??

This is the Chinese Tea House. Not a great photo I know - but!! it was cool! It is behind the Marble Mansion that was built in 1888 and was the summer cottage of a different Vanderbilt - Alva and william. Alva divorced William but kept the house. She was a crusader for Womens equality...

Anyways - she used the Tea house for Suffragette meetings, and womens rallys. 

So this photo - is before we went into a Tunnel. I do not like tunnels and I do not like small spaces - so my husband said we had to have proof that I did it.

And look - the Light at the end of the tunnel ( and yes I took this photo)

and proof that I am on the other side. This is where the trail starts to get a little more fun!! These rocks are really awesome . There are a lot of signs to not fall here .... good advice right?

and then the trail take you this way... On the Beach - LOVE!!!

I just think this place is So pretty - but that trail..... see how it gets rockier ... 

Fisher man on the point. I thought about asking him what he caught - but ... does that scare the fish away?

you keep hiking thru stuff like this - and then you see a Beach club!!!

and you follow the trail to the end  - and Bam! You are right back on Mansion Alley!!! it was awesome!

That was a great little place to stay!

Adventures with Puppy

 Debbie at A Quilters Table mentioned a 31 day Blog writing Challenge for December... I know I have already missed a day - but I thought - well I'm going to jump in... see if I can make my life interesting haha!

So !! We had an adventure on Saturday. Maybe you know we ride horses and work horses and compete on horses... and our adventure took us pretty far south. We would be gone too long to leave Puppy alone, and none of the kids were available to come take care of Puppy while we were gone - so we loaded him up!!

and of course - he had to be documented!

He has this little bed that he likes to curl up in, so I grabbed it and put it in the middle seat of the pick up. He moved right in. and of course, informed me he is the the most * cowboy* in the truck. The real Cowboy sits in the middle so he doesn't have to drive, or get out to open gates..... 

Puppy did not like being in the arena area - some of the noises bothered him, so we came back and hung out in the back of the pickup for a while.

Always ready for a little snacking... and we discovered - he likes popcorn!! 

We got back home and started unloading, his bed was the first to get in the house. But we had chores and all sorts of other outside things to do. I came back in and he was sitting so politely in his bed - sure he was to get another meal.....  soon he will be Fat Puppy  haha!!

Day 4 Part B - Cape Cod and More Light Houses

 After Chatham and that yummy Clam CHowder!

We headed up the peninsula - I would tell you that was north - but what do I know? We headed towards Provincetown

we stopped at Nauset - and the Light House was under construction!

it had been closer to the beach but - they had to move it back since the beach was shifting !!

It was built in 1836 - and has had to be moved 4 times already do to Beach erosion

We drove all the way to the Northern Point and started hiking on the beach. then we decided we had already hiked 8 miles that day - we weren't going to make it to this lighthouse. The sand was cold, the wind was blowing and... we had to be heading back to Newport by 3. 

I was discouraged but, we got in the car - and voila!! you could see it from another angle!!!

We started going back down the peninsula ( and if I have that wrong... just call cape cod that for me for this post ok?)

And we saw a sign for the Three Sisters Light houses - so Detour!!!

These Three Sisters were no longer in service but had been moved back out of the way.

 

This is the current light house in place of where the Three Sisters used to be. It's kind of pretty!

After that we really had to get going and get back to Newport - I had to have dinner with my Son!!

Priorities you know!
