friday!!

I know - that is a simple title - but I am so glad it is Friday!! This has been a busy week... so awesomely wonderful, and the weekend holds great things in store too.... but I am glad the school work will be over today!!

Little bit got a lot of sewing time in though - he stuck with it and finished up his quilt top. So I am taking credit for it today... and posting it for Finish it Up Friday!!  ( that counts - right - I mean I gave birth to him... so I gotta get some benefits!)

So here he is!!  I just realized my desk is in the background... do not fault me for my piles LOL

Middle bit had his laying on the floor and just wasn't jazzed with it, so he told me he would really like to try green... well twist my arm - ok!! So we headed down to the fabric stash and picked out 3 greens... this is the one he loved!! I think he has talent!!

My real finish I can't show yet, but here is a little snippet from it.... I quilted little butterflies in the corner ( I copied my dear friend Pat - who said I could, but I didn't believe I could)

And some feathers... and bugs!!!
I will show you the other side when I can - its way cool!!

More!

Can you handle a few more quilts?  I LOVE checking out quilts - such inspiration and such fun fabrics!!!

This one was pieces by Char and  quilted by April W In Iowa!! I Love this quilt... and I think it would be a great way to use  a variety of fabrics!!

The green -I want that one!!

This one is TOO cool - it was pieced by Carolyn and Quilted by April in IA.

aren't these cool blocks??

This one was quilted and pieced by April. I really like that pattern...

This next one (below) was also pieced and quilted by April. The colors!! Oh my!!

Don't they just make you want to smile???

This beauty was pieced by Andrea and Fay of Lynn MA. and quilted by Fay!! The fabrics are just yuummy!!

And the quilting just compliments it so!!

I tell you, I had to study this one for a while, it has such a cool look about it, but I couldn't quite see how the blocks worked. Upon closer inspection - they twist ! Is that not so Cool.
It was made by Lynn W in Alamosa - you can see more of her proojects at
alamosaquilter.blogspot.com

And my pillowcase people! What would I do without them? (seriously!!) they rock
The Pueblo West Quilt Guild sent these our way - and they are such a great finish to the whole Quilt of Valor package!!

Thank Thank Thank you all!!!

And just so you know - these great quilts are already with their recipients, or are soon to be there.... as in they are not in my house anymore. The demand this month was high!!!

Quilt of Valor show

I hope you have a little something to snack on... cuz I have some beautiful Quilts of Valor to brag about today!!!

This first one is made by Jessica in Denver, and Quilted by Ellen in Denver. Ellen is a great quilter, and is also involved in Firehouse Quilts.  Check out the inner part of the snowball - its beautiful!

This next quilt was also Quilted by Ellen, and was made by Susan T in Wyoming. I love all the detail work she quilted, so took quite a few pictures.

Next we have an awesome log cabin quilt made by Gail S in Ohio. It was quilted by Ann R in Colorado Springs. I just love the tiny little log cabins!!

This great star one was made by Harriett of Greeley CO, out of some of the Moda Just One Star blocks. It was Quilted by Sue S of Superior Colorado.

Sue also quilted these next three quilts. They were made by her Sister Mary!! Mary is trying really hard to use up her plaids and home spuns, and I am glad to say - she is NOT finished. She.... is not so glad... I think she is ready to move on a bit!

I kind of LOVE this quilting design!! Doesn't it look cool on the plaids?

I want to thank everyone for getting involved... lots of hands make great works!!!

Design Floor Monday

We got a little inspired on Saturday... because, not only was the floor clean, but my cutting table was too!!!  The boys thought it was a great idea to cut up their zoo fabrics... and so We did!!!

In the attempt at being honest... when we found these fabrics we kind of guessed at how much we would need for one quilt. Yesterday we made drawings of the strippy idea that they had, and we took measurements... and we can get two quilts out of what we purchased, and a third quilt if we add a little from my stash *gasp*   WHO KNEW!!!

To the left is Middle Bits Layout... and to the Right is Little Bits layout.  They overlap a little on the border, because big brother was laying out doing his homework, and didn't want to move... he almost got covered with fabrics!!

Middle Bits ^

Little Bits ^^

and Little bit started working on his, I think he should be done tonite... Middle Bit is pinning his..

For the zoo fabrics we used 6.5 inch strips, for the blues we used 2 inch strips, and for the outer zoo border we used 6.5 inch strips.... based on a half yard of each of the inner zoo prints... I have a 5 inch strip leftover of each print.  So we found a forest green, to replace the blue, and will make that one too.... it will be smaller, but should be fun!

January Color Palette Revisited

For some reason I just couldn't let this sit, I mean I did, I folded it and put it in its tub, and then I thought... if I don't make a decision this will be in my 2013 UFO pile... and Lordy Lordy - we DO NOT want that to happen!!! So....  Here is the palette ... It is picture of the print out, the better version can be found at vickiwelsh.typepad.com    ....

and this was ( well it still is) my top.... I just wasn't sure if it should have borders, or be left as it is.. I have no idea if this is staying here, or will find a recipient , or become  Quilt of Valor... you just never know with my quilts.....

I posted a couple of pictures with a border - Here  , and I got a lot of great suggestions to try, and I tried them all... and then Cheryl  said to try orange,... and I thought - she it joking me right?

So I emailed her back - and said really? Your not just teasing me? Your not just making me admit that I have orange in my stash too?  Your not just giving me busy work, cuz you know... if your serious I will check it out....

And she WAS Serious... and I layed it out on the ground, and I hemmed and hawed... and then Big Bit came in, and he said ... MOM - that is too cool, and I still left it... and then Wrangler Man came in - and he said ... WIFE ... I love that Orange..... ( okay he really didn't say Wife... but it looked good in type)

And then Little Bit, and Middle Bit came in and they said .... Ohhhh MOM that is great... so I was sold... and I bordered it last night - and NOW I am done.... until it comes up in my quilting list!!

A closer look - because after I used the orange - that lighter purple looked good....

And now... I am going to go have breakfast because Wrangler Man cooked!!

Finally Finished

Or maybe its really finally caught up!!!  I was behind on the QOV Persimmon Mystery Quilt, and have been working hard to catch up.... I wanted to pick my fabrics out for the Color Palette challenge.... and the boys and I wanted to start our strippy quilt.....

A spoiler alert - if you are working on the mystery - I am going to post a picture.....

this is the Color Palette - put together by Vicki Welsh...

These are my fabrics ( minus that red and white striped one in the back -oops)  I really thought that i would not have all of these colors in my stash, so I was pleasantly surprised. A few years ago I inherited a stash from a fellow quilter... so between the two of us, we really did have this challenge covered!!

And - at last - the catch up of the Mystery quilt.. I know another clue comes out either today or tomorrow.... so its a short lived feeling ... but I am going with it!!

I am linking up with  http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/  for the Whoop Whoop Friday
Enjoy your day!!

PW QOV Challenge update

Here are the Quilts of Valor that have arrived so far from Judy L's Challenge ...

This one came from Mary in CO
It is really soft and Cuddly. She used fleece on the back... and I think I am in Love!!

This next one came from Karen in Oklahoma. Isn't it striking?

And the last one for todays show is from Adele D in Louisiana!! My 5th grader is learning about the Louisiana purchase - so this box caught his attention! We looked it up on the map. He decided that Louisiana got the short end of the deal. If the purchase was that *big* , how come only a little state got the name?   hmmmmm

Thanks Quilters!! These are awesome quilts! And I so appreciate all the help - if you check over here:  No Soldier Forgetten  I post the QOV's Delivered, a lot of times before I post pictures. Sometimes I am not able to take pictures, and sometimes they have to be approved first.... but you know we are not in it for that  ;-)
