The Baby Horse aka Rexie Roo

Look at this cute little Fluff Ball!!!

Three weeks old today!!!

We believe that the more your baby gets used to you and what all you do on the place , the more broke and safer he is. So we have been working on petting him all over, Picking up his feet, and sort of pressuring him into walking with the feel. This is  the start to halter breaking him.

when they feel the pressure along with a little tug it will encourage them to move forward, instead of resist and wonder what the heck the thing on their face is.  We like gentle training, and soft encouraging. Not force or pain...

He doesn't really drink much water as he is nursing - but he likes to play in the tank and sticks his nose in the running water, then shakes. He makes me giggle!

We are calling him Rex at the moment. He will need a registered name - and I think we have that picked out as well - but the final call.... still has to be made.

Did you see we have the halter on him? He looked at Momma Mare like really?   but he did very well. He only had it on for about 5 minutes and we just got him used to it while hanging with momma!

So darn adorable! I had no idea the amount of time you need to spend with a baby horse.

Isn't it fun to watch babies of all types play in water? The splashing makes me giggle every time! Rex is doing well with all that "pampering!" May he decide he loves all that rubbing soon!

What a cute little guy!! My husband has such fond memories of the colts they had around when he was a kid. His mom had a photo of him sitting on the ground with a colt snuggled up with its head in his lap. We haven't found that photo but hope someone in the family still has it. His dad raised horses and even trained horses for others, and encouraged the kids to spend time with those youngsters.

Adorable! It must be fun to notice his personality as he grows. (Do horses have a sense of humor?) I was hoping you'd post about him soon so I love the update and the photos. I think you and your husband are excellent owners to teach him so gently. Enjoy!

He's definitely a cutie, destined to be one fine looking horse with very good manners.
