A Quilty Thank You!!

From the Fifth Graders to all of you who have helped in any way for our No Soldier Forgotten Quilt of Valor Delivery:
~
Dear Quilters,
Over the past year, people around the United States have been working on the No Soldier Forgotten project. Platte Valley Elementary’s 5th grade would like to thank you for your quilts. Not only did you send quilts, but you sent quilts that are outstanding in every way possible. We can tell you took your time.

We would also like to thank you for your time. We made some quilts of our own and we know how long it takes to make a quilt. But we only made one. I can’t imagine how long it took to make more than five, for those of you who did.

Finally, we would like to thank you for caring enough to make these quilts. Most people would just sit around and watch TV, but not you guys. No, you guys gave up so much time, I can’t think of the words to explain how that feels to the soldiers.

Sixteen of our own classmates took your quilts and delivered them. Some soldiers cried and some smiled and enjoyed the moment. That is all thanks to your guys. We could never have reached and passed our goal of 700 quilts. So thank you quilters of the United States, Canada, St. Croix, and the Virgin Islands.

Sincerely,
A

Dear Quilters,
Thank you for dedicating all your time and donating all the quilts. The quilts were beautiful. Everyday we had a new quilt up for display in our classroom. I was so proud of all the people donating the quilts. It is awesome that we made our 700 goal. Each quilt was so different in its own way. I love all the different designs on the quilts.

I think every soldier that got a quilt appreciated all the time and work that went in to making the quilts. You were not only helping a soldier in need, you were helping their family, too.

Once again, I want to thank you for helping us make all those quilts.

Sincerely,
K.

Dear quilters,
Thank you all so very much for all that you’ve done in the past to help us here at school and to help bring some healing to a wounded serviceman or woman. I’m a fifth grade at Platte Valley Elementary. Over the past school year we have been receiving quilts from all of you awesome quilters. I would just like to thank you quilters. Even though we made eight quilts here at school without all of you we would have never met our 1st goal of 400 and then our 2nd goal of 700 quilts. I am just so happy that I have witnessed a bunch of people working together to make a little patch of the world a better place. I am so appreciative and so grateful for every single one of you that I am at a loss for words. You guys made great, beautiful designs, and patterns. I loved walking into my classroom everyday and getting to see all of the quilts that you’ve made. They were all unique in every way, from the fabric to the quilting patterns. Every soldier has to be satisfied with whatever quilt they got because their quilt is not even close to looking like someone’s quilt. I can’t even begin to tell you how appreciative we are of you, your work, your time, and being caring enough to spend you money on helping someone in need instead of buying shoes or clothes. I am just so appreciative I can’t even express it in words.

Thank you guys so very, very much,
M.

Dear Quilters,
I thank you for donating your time and money to make something that doesn’t even benefit you, even though it benefits your soul. I can’t even imagine the love and care you put into every stitch you sewed in the quilts you made. I appreciate your devotion and your amazing sewing ability that has helped those men and women who fought to keep this country free from our enemies, whoever they may be. Because you are all so kind, I consider all of you to be heroes for making a quilt. I know the soldiers will appreciate for years to come what you did for them even though they don’t know you directly. I again say thank you.

Sincerely,
R.

Dear Quilters,
Thank you for all of your hard work on the quilts. Donating all of those quilts will help the life of a soldier. In each stitch that I saw there was love. And when they hold it they will feel the love. Every time there was a new quilt, our teacher would hang it up, and everyone would pay attention to the quilt. Then we would study the designs on the quilts. We also liked seeing the labels. But the most fun was seeing the quilts shine. Now when you think about quilting, you will know that you made someone smile. Thank you for helping us reach our goal.

Sincerely,
T.

Alycia, thank you for posting these letters from the 5th graders. Each one is a treasure. I want to thank you and the students for getting me involved in your project. As one student said, "I can't even begin to tell you how appreciative we all are of you ... ... I am just so appreciative I can't even express it in words. ...M"

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I am cracking up at the honesty of these kids. Most people just watch TV and we chose to spend money on the quilts, not clothes or shoes! Thanks for sharing these letters with us. It really made my day.
