Thursdays Thoughts - Q2 Goals


I have a strange way of Organizing, but it seems to work for me. I think I approach Goal Setting that same way. I have a bunch of Generic Goals, and as they days go by, the specifics seem to fill in.

But things are changing, and I am starting to notice it now.... For the past 10 years I have been the Primary person my Parents would go to. ( okay really 16 - but 10 with severe health issues)  8 Years ago I had to make the tough decision to make them move closer to me. 

I hated to have them sell their mountain home, but I just couldn't maintain two places.... The last 3 years have been WAY more intense care of them.  

But since both have passed, I am just now starting to notice the changes. I mean, My Dad and I texted every day - multiple times. I saw him every week, Multiple times, I did all his cooking, etc.

And last night, as I was cooking dinner, I realized I hadn't heard from my Dad, and I hadn't planned a meal large enough to take him some, and it was weird..... It was never a stress, just a thing to do, but not having that thing to do.... is weird


All that to say - I need to make sure I have some focuses so I don't completely fall apart and end up on the couch binging Netflix ( or apple tv) and eating Cheetos  ( puffs only please)

GOALS:

Business:

*Keep Machine Quilting for Clients. 

    This is the large goal, the specifics will get there when the client make the appointment ( haha) 

*Last Quarter I made 4 Memory Quilts,

*This Quarter I have 3 planned for Clients - I think that will be it for Q2

Personal:

*I started yoga... I got it in a few days each week, but for this next quarter - I would like to do it every weekday.  Wish me luck, My dog likes Yoga, I like to do it in the morning, and in the morning is when everything breaks loose haha... so I need it.... calm before the day

*Keep quilting quilts for Quilts of Valor and Hospice. 

*Keep taking Day trips to Hike the State.  Specifically more Ghost Towns

*Ride and Chase Cows... that's the best part of SPRING!!!!

Not so fun:

*Keep sorting my Dads house. The good thing about this is when I moved them 8 years ago we did a HUGE sort - and got rid of a lot of things that weren't important.... the bad thing about this - a lot of the things that are left are memorable things - and things my Mom wanted passed down.....




So are you tired of me yet?

  1. I, too, am the primary person to take care of my mom and it takes up a lot of time in my life. I don't think too much about the hole that will be left when I get to the other side where you are. Big hugs to you - it's a huge change for you! It's good to have goals that keep you moving and doing. Take a moment every now and then to watch a movie and eat Cheetos - sometimes that's good for us, too!

  2. Were you an only child? I felt like an only child where my parents were concerned even though I had 3 siblings. I did most of the work/accommodating. It was difficult. Good that you have lots to keep you busy!

  3. I was the primary person for my parents too and luckily they had completely downsized by the time Dad passed at 99 so there wasn't much to go through at the end. The important things got passed to relatives when Mother passed 4 years earlier. I still think of things I want to ask my mother and then realize I'll never know the answer.

  4. I totally get that. When my grandfather was in assisted living, we saw him several times a week, took care of any business matters he had, etc (not quite the same as cooking cleaning for him as you did), and it sure left a hole. It’s hard trying to figure out what to fill that with. It slowly gets better. Hang in there. Hugs, Alycia.

    I've been doing yoga daily since the beginning of the year, and I'm trying to add in doing a short meditation every day. Starting my day off with one or the other really does help me a lot. Big hugs to you and as always I love seeing what you are making and working on!

  7. The seasons of life are so different person to person. They all have the fact that they require change and almost all of resist change. Your post takes me back to times of change in my life and I realized that change isn't necessarily good or bad it just has to be.

  8. Goals are good and you have some. Love my yoga, too, but never got my dog to enjoy it. Don't do it everyday, but that would be a great goal someday....not right now. Here's to you and dealing with grief, but having a plan to keep you going. I still think, many years later, that one day my mother will ring me again.

  9. Sorting through a house sounds like a daunting task on its own! Especially because there are always memories and emotions involved. I am surprised you get so much else done. I hope you can further enjoy your sewing projects and work this "rough goal system". xo
