Sixteen Patches

I love Leader/Enders and I always have something cut up just for that....

But when my piles starting getting big - I thought I had better take a count as to what I had, and make a plan....

I have over 40 plaid ones.....

And 30 bluesy ones.....

and 24 Patriotic ones....

I am thinking it might be time to put a few of them into some tops!!!

I kinda like this idea.... The on point makes them go farther - but then... I have to sew goofy rows....

I can do it tho!

I also like this one. I made it kinda crazy in color - but I found a bin of Black and white print fabrics and was dreaming of ways to use them

but truthfully - I would probably stick to solids for the hourglass blocks - especially since my 16 patches are so scrappy....

And then I started playing with the border a little...

Cuz you just can't stop playing.....

This would use even more of my squares....

Hmmmmm

Off to ponder......

  1. Hey Alycia, I’m just about to launch into one of these myself (16-patch). You have come up with some great setting ideas! I saw another idea recently that uses sashing strips with cornerstones that looked pretty cool. Very scrappy. Keep up the good work, and have fun!

  2. I just made 2 on point quilts- one with 4 patches and one with 16 patches. They are not that bad to assemble. They look real good (on blog) and have already made it out the door to the same home as comfort quilts to a husband and wife both dealing with cancer treatment.

  3. I like these ideas so much better than just setting them close together. Sixteen patches can look pretty chaotic without space between them. Dot

  4. I suspect we'll see several versions given all the blocks you have. Have fun playing with the layout and sewing them together!

  5. I like that plan, straight set using alternate hourglass blocks which give illusion of on point ! the border is great too.

  7. I vote for #2.

I had to chuckle at your flying/Mary Poppins bucket this AM. I probably could have flown in your direction a couple of times last week -- even with all my ballast!

Yesterday, I woke up to 6" of new snow!!! But most, not all, had melted by sundown. Today has been nonstop snowing, but not really accumulating. March and April got their 'memos' mixed up.

    Keep stitching,

  8. I like 16 patches too! My favorite setting you showed is with the hourglass blocks.

  9. You have a lot of nice options. I think the Black and White might be fun...it will be fun to see what you decide!
