Quarter Log Blue Blocks

I don't know the name of these blocks - I did a bunch of them using only 2 1/2 inch strips and called them quarter logs - but this time....

I started with a 5 inch square and added miscellaneous size strips until they reached 9 1/2 inches.

I know I saw Confessions of a Fabric Addict making them and Samelias Mum.... and Maybe  few others but I can't remember what they called them either!

Anyways - They have been on my design wall long enough so I started cutting the setting triangles in hopes that I will sew some this week and get this into a top!!!

Forward Progress!!!!

  1. They are called either quarter log cabins or half log cabins depending on whose historical resource you read. Christina Cameli did a marvelous tutorial on them - I used that one when I made Shoshin (purples) earlier this year. Your blues look MARVELOUS!

  14. Great use of scraps! I have plenty of 2-1/2 inch strips and think I'll make a few of these blocks. I love the blue color.

  15. They're lovely, whatever you call them. On your wall like that, they remind me of the corners of table cloths hanging down, the kind of table cloths that are all white except for fancy borders.

  16. I’ve not done these, but watched Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict and Joy at The Joyful Quilter. The setting triangles would have me worried! Only one quilt under my belt that had setting triangles! Yours turned out so cool! Good luck on the backing and quilting!
