My original goal was to made a Churn Dash Block a day for March.... and that is when I thought that March had 30 days!! but!! Did you know that March has 31 days? So I am one short.... but that is ok! This is enough to make a top.... or something!!
These are my Red Blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at Angelas blog -
I had originally started with just Red on Red, but I had so much fun adding the Whites that had too much Red to read white in with them.... by the way - that is a new term of fabric..
"White that has too much red to read white" yep - I am a fabric pioneer.... And I love Polka Dots!
I captured this sunset from my deck earlier this month - and I just love the colors - so I thought I would share. It was just so pretty with all the crazy colors and the storm moving in.
And.... this was a cell phone shot!! I am starting to really fall in love with my phone's picture taking abilities!

ReplyDeleteAlycia, your red blocks are stunning...they make me see the red fabrics in a new way. I love your sunset picture; it is breathtaking! Especially the star image on the right in the mid-right area!
ReplyDeleteLooking good, Alycia!! Is that the final layout? I tend to move brighter block, especially multiples, into corners (or perhaps inner posts) of the design to balance the color placement. (I'm boring and predictable like that!)

ReplyDeleteGreat churn dash blocks. Love your variety of red fabrics. The addition of white sets them off beautifully. 30 blocks works much better than 31 for a quilt! You could always make the 31st and put it on the back. Gorgeous sunset.
ReplyDeleteNo one is going to know that you are one block short unless you tell them and what do you think you would have done with 31 of them? That would have required you to come up with a different layout and probably more blocks. I love it just as it is.

ReplyDeleteSuper quilt top of red churn dashes! Please show us again when it's done! And I like your description.... some people call those fabrics low volume, but when there is too much of a color in it to read as a white, well, you've hit the nail on the head.

ReplyDeleteI do like a churn dash and in red -- wonderful. Yes, I see the need for the term whites with too much red.... I have a few of them myself. You have some great fabric in this quilt. And enough of the brighter reds and reds with white to make this quilt seem bright and fun.
