Welcome to my day on the "Crafted Applique: New Possibilities" Blog Hop!!
I am so excited to be included in this hop!!
AND!!! I am in LOVE with this book!!
Why is that you ask? Well the very first sentence that I read was: "It is true that many quilters hesitate or even run the other way when it comes to doing applique...." and I about screamed - OH MY GOSH !!! Is Lara in my house someplace??
I have long admired applique quilts, and the gorgeous items people make ... but I have been SO Intimidated by the process!!!
I sat down with Lara's book as soon as it arrived and started reading. I told the kids to fend for themselves - and Oh ya - go feed the animals would you??? And I Kept on reading!
I was SO intrigued, and then I realized... I had all the supplies.... and I could "Possibly" do this!!
And then I started trying to pick out a project - and you know what - that one on the front cover is just calling my name! When I was a kid we had a pink little camper that looked just like that - and my Mom and Dad took us camping in it a lot!
BUT!!! My husband ( who is sometimes wise - but please don't tell him I said that) wondered out loud if I was jumping in to fast. And After I glared at him - I thought - you know - maybe I should try a small little piece first.
I did - I tried something small. I had some of my photos printed on fabrics, so I thought I would like to try to applique that to a fabric that I am planning on using in a Quilt of Valor....
Here is my first attempt - It was so great - it worked just like Lara said!!!
Then!! I thought - I wonder if I can use the applique zig zag like stitch on this? The last ( and ONLY) other time I tried applique, it gathered and bunched and got stuck in my machine - which is why I may have never attempted it again.... but look:
It worked - no bunching, and I am learning to make better applique stitches!! Yay - I have learned so much from this book and her techniques, I really am ready to start the camper project now!! yay!!
From a complete beginner in applique, and a self taught quilter - I can truly recommend this book! It is perfect for everyone - even those a little intimated by Applique!!
Graciously Lara has offered to send "Crafted Applique: New Possibilities" to one winner drawn on this blog post!
So Leave a comment ( ON THIS POST) - tell me if you are an experienced appliquer' or a beginner.
For a second chance -Leave me a second comment and tell me if you follow me.... either here on my blog, or my facebook page Quiltygirl.com ( and if you don't - start now and leave me a comment!!)
On May 21st, I will draw a winner and Lara will send you a book directly ;-)
If you are in a hurry to purchase this book - head to your local quilt shop and show them the love - or head over to Lara;s blog - Buzzin Bumble and purchase from her!
Lastly - go read these other reviews !!

***UPDATE: The Giveaway is Closed - a Winner will be announced tomorrow on the blog *****
I am a beginner at applique, taking a class and learning a lot!
ReplyDeletecork@pa.rr.com
The more I read about this book, the more intrigued I am. I am an experienced applique-er, but not a precise one . . . those points always seem to defeat me! Thank you for an opportunity to possibly win! lynnstck(at)yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAnd, I joyfully follow you on Bloglovin'! lynnstck(at)yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteHooray Alycia! It's a good idea to start with simple designs and it helps build confidence to try the more complex ones. Your eagle fabric is beautiful. I'm so glad that you loved the Crafted Appliqué method and projects! Or as Sandra (Musings of a Menopausal Melon) would say, that your feelings about “Aaaack-pliqué!” have changed to "Ahhh-pliqué, said with a sigh of contentment."
ReplyDeleteThat's my hope about my new fray-free, washable method - that it will help people learn to love appliqué quilting and that it will open up a whole new world of possibilities for artistic expression to them. Thank you for sharing my book with your readers!
For a long time I did not piece quilts because I really wasn't very accurate. I applauded everything! So I guess you could say that I am experienced. Ooo..I just channeled Jimi Hndrix!
ReplyDeleteYes, I follow you here and on your FB page
ReplyDeleteI'm a beginnerish appliqués. I have dreams of doing more.
ReplyDeleteYes I follow you. I read every post!
ReplyDeleteExperienced applique'r...why...because I love the "A" word!!!
ReplyDeleteI follow on Facebook too!
ReplyDeleteI have done a fair amount of applique - although it is still not my fave even though I love the finished look. If/when I applique, definitely prefer machine applique w/ buttonhole stitch edging to hand applique any day - must be because I am always in a hurry to get things done. Too many ideas - not enough time in the day what with that "nasty" work stuff.
ReplyDeleteLaura ... the quiltlady.laura@comcast.net
I've never tried applique before, but I certainly admire it on quilts. Maybe this book is just what I need.

I'm an experienced beginner. I've tried it several times but seldom like the results.
ReplyDeleteHI, just learning about applique! Looks so neat! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletemsstitcher1214@gmail.com
I've been following your blog for a very long time; I love Wednesdays.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I quilt for a few charities and really can't take on more quilts. I do like trying new blocks and have been following your scrappy BOM blocks. Do you accept donations of these blocks?
I love the look of applique, but like you could never get it right. Excited about this book.
ReplyDeleteHi Alicia! I am so glad you shared your results with a zigzag finish! My finishing stitches are really improving with Lara's tips from the book!
ReplyDeleteI am totally a Beginner at applique...did some hand applique few winters ago..was slooow at it tho... This Hop is soooo encouraging..willing to try again! Thanks for chance to win your Give-a-way too! :)
ReplyDeleteI am a new Follower too...thru Bloglovin :)
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to get the scoop on Lara's applique method. All you participants are raving about it. I consider myself just a beginner even though I've done a bit of applique. I do have an appliqued baby quilt in my near future and I need to learn this process so I can use it on the baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteI am experienced at applique and it's my favorite method for quilts. Would love to win this book. Lara is a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteI am somewhere in between a novice and an accomplished appliquer. I've done quite a bit but there's always room for improvement. My fusible applique with blanket stitch looks nice but my needleturn applique is where there's room for improvement. I am so very curious as to Lara's technique. You make it sound very easy and user friendly.
ReplyDeleteI follow you via email...
ReplyDeleteI would say I'm an advanced beginner; I've done a few appliqué projects but I'm so entranced with this technique!
ReplyDeleteI just signed up for your email!
ReplyDeleteI guess I would say I am a beginner although I have done some of it in the past. But the project I am working on now has caused me all kinds of problems. It is the first time with this machine. I tried to use the walking foot for the satin stitch, but I had trouble seeing the edges and missed catching all in the satin stitch. I may use my older machine in the future which has a built in walking foot.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog by email.
ReplyDeleteI think I am somewhere in the middle as an appliquer ;-)
ReplyDeletefollowing through Bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteHave appliqués in fits and starts over 30 years. Hand, freezer paper, fuse. No lasting love started yet I keep saving and buying patterns. I am either a wanna be or a need to be appliquér with unrequited love. Maybe if you dropped the book on my head ;0)P
ReplyDeleteOf course I follow you. All those Markboro guys and actually it's the horses and QOV pictures shown
ReplyDeleteI am still a beginner appliquer. I haven't tried it for awhile but do enjoy seeing results from applique. Seem to like machine better than by hand.
ReplyDeletei'm just past the beginner stage of quilting. love applique and all the different methods of sticking fabric cutouts to fabric backing and making it look like something. have got around to all the methods, but am making headway. would love to win a copy of this fab book ... I'd sure like to find out lara's technique! thanx for the opportunity to do so.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bigginer applaque person but do love it... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI got ya on bloglovin and facebook..... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI am experienced at applique, but by no means an expert. Lara's technique sounds different than things I've tried, and I am intrigued! I think I need this book.
ReplyDeleteHi Alicia, I have never done applique in my life! Thank you for the opportunity to win Lara's book!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the 2nd chance! I am already a follower of yours. :)
ReplyDeleteI am a beginner at applique. I have always been intimidated by it. Thanks for sharing your story. cknapp3626(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
ReplyDeleteI follow you by email. cknapp3626(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
ReplyDeleteI am so curious about Lara's technique and want to learn to do it! I would label myself as an intermediate appliquer. I know there's a lot more I could learn, but I've enjoyed what projects I've worked on.

Very new to applique! But you got to start somewhere.
ReplyDeleteDmac5958ataoldotcom
I have not done much applique but I think it's beautiful. This book looks so awesome! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI am experienced at fusible applique and my sewing machine does a great blanket stitch around those fused appliques!! NOTHING by hand, ever!
ReplyDeleteI follow you via email.
ReplyDeleteI have done very little applique as I find it somewhat tiresome. I am looking forward to trying Lara's techniques.
ReplyDeleteI just liked you on FB! Looking forward to following you.
ReplyDeleteI am experienced with both hand and machine applique. Totally self taught. I prefer hand needle turn applique and had a bright Jacobian hand needle turned applique quilt on a black background juried into the big Paducah quilt show a few years ago. The first and only time I entered. :-)
ReplyDeleteKarol
I follow you, getting your posts in my email
ReplyDeleteKarol
I am a beginner for sure!! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI follow w/ bloglovin!
ReplyDeleteI've done applique for years. I have never figured out what all the fuss is about (and that lemon---OW! it hurt). I started with Hawaiian applique and just went from there. I can cut out any shape and stitch it on my quilt--no grain line, no blocks upside down, just stitching. Very relaxing to me.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog.
I follow your blog. I'm not a Facebook fan.
ReplyDeleteI've done quite a bit of applique, but there are always new things to learn. In the past I've done hand applique, but after numerous hand surgeries I now do everything by machine. I'm always ready for a new technique that I can do.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on your blog.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a "sort-of" beginning appliquer. Have done just a little needle-turn and am only on my second attempt at machine applique. Why didn't this book come out years ago!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this if it is as easy as everyone says.
ReplyDeleteI have completed a few applique projects but I am interested in Lara's technique and look forward to reading her book.
ReplyDeleteYES! I am a shakin'-in-my-boots beginner! I'm taking a BOM class at the local shop, about 3 blocks/month and there's always an appliqué block - so I thought that would be a good way to get started. I did a test block for the first one in Jan .. and I'm still paralyzed! But it will be a beautiful quilt of Colorado when it gets done (if ever). If you've got something that will help - I'm game :)
ReplyDeleteAnd YES, I do follow your blog :) And send my fellow QOVers notes to check this out often, too! Those are our pillowcases just below this post ;)
ReplyDeletei am a beginner in applique and tend to avoid it when i can. i refer to it as "the A word". would love to try this new technique.
ReplyDeletei follow on facebook.
ReplyDeleteI am fairly new to appliqué but tend to hand blanket stitch which is very time consuming. I like the idea of a newer, quicker method which won't fray. x
ReplyDeleteThis looks like an aweso me book! I am just a beginner at Applique! mumbird3atgmaildotcom
ReplyDeleteFollowing on blog login!
ReplyDeleteNot a beginner but also not experienced in applique! Would love to win a copy of the book as those reviewing it say the method used leads to fabulous appliqués.
ReplyDeletefabricstasher24@gmail.com
I'm experienced with applique
ReplyDeleteI have appliquéd a few wall hangings. Mostly do straight line around the piece. I would love this book.
ReplyDeleteI have been following your blog for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out beautifully. Like you, I was a frustrated applique-er until trying Lara's method. It is genius.
ReplyDeleteI should be experienced but I am still a beginner. Just can't get good at it.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on BL
ReplyDeleteI am an intermediate quilter. I love applique and want to make my raw edge applique better. crystalbluern at tds dot net
ReplyDeleteI have appliqued exactly 3 items in over 30 years of sewing. So, have AVOIDED it like a deadly disease!!! Would like to learn to do it quick and easy, there are some really cute aplique patterns out there, not to mention that I want to applique roses on the border for a quilt for my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI´m just beginner! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a total newbie! I took an applique class, but didn't really like it so I'd like to learn a FUN technique.
ReplyDeleteI am so intrigued with this book! And I love that I am finding new quilting blogs. Newly retired and ready to quilt again. I have tried every applique method and not very good at any of them. But this new one sounds right up my alley.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful eagle photo, perfect for your appliqué project!
ReplyDelete-Soma
I've never done an applique, so guess you can't get any more beginner than I am.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on email.
ReplyDeleteI am an experienced machine applique quilter. I love turned under edges with either freezer paper or glue. I would like to try this no fray raw edge technique:)
ReplyDeleteI love to applique and consider myself at the intermediate level. I am interested in learning a new technique and appreciate the opportunity to win Lara's book.
ReplyDeleteI started following you on Bloglovin' tonight!
ReplyDeleteI've been successful with applique but don't care for the stiffness or hand the appliqued pieces and occasional shagginess that can occur while doing so for certain projects so this techniques really is a must learn technique for me. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteYour eagle looks great and I'm glad it was easier than you'd experienced in the past. Yea Alycia!!
I am a beginner when it comes to applique. I sure could make use of Lara's book! I would love to win.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog and your facebook page!
ReplyDeleteI've done some needle turn applique, but didn't really enjoy it--it was just necessary for the look I was going for. But this kind of applique--this I could get interested in.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such an interesting technique. As a beginner, this would really help me out. thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI follow you on facebook.
ReplyDeleteI am an experienced hand appliquer, not so good at machine.
ReplyDeleteWith all of the attempts I have made at applique, I suppose you could call me 'experienced.' It has just never been a pleasant experience. Thanks for the chance to win the book.
ReplyDeleteI have done some applique -but mostly fusible and typically for art quilts tat won't be washed. For a quilt that will be washed, I usually try to do something else. So I am finding this blog hop intriguing. I think I need to win this book. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have had some experience with applique but I am always looking for some new ideas to improve.
ReplyDeleteI follow you through email.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower and Like your Etsy shop!
ReplyDeleteI avoid applique like the plague, but it shouldn't be that way. So intrigued by this method she introduces - would love to win and try out some projects!
ReplyDeleteGood morning!! I am a medium experience appliquer (Is that a word?) I have already got the book and read through it and picked my first project - it will be a Hawaiian coast - picked up the fabric 10 years ago when we were there and it's been sitting every since. Now it's on my bench and we're starting today!! Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to be on a blog hop! I look forward to reading/owning this book. I enjoy machine applique (thanks to good workshops with Pat Sloan and Robbi Eklow) and new techniques are always welcome.
ReplyDeleteBeginner at applique but can't wait to try this technique!
ReplyDeleteI have a bit of applique experience by machine and by hand. This new method really looks interesting.

ReplyDeleteI'm not really even a beginner...but sometimes I'm a wannabe.
ReplyDeleteI have done applique by hand and machine, but I am very interested in the techniques in this book. Sounds like my skill set could be expanded!

ReplyDeleteI am relatively experienced at applique-both hand and machine. Looking forward to learning this new method.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Lara, I read your post and have started following your blog by email.
ReplyDeleteI'm somewhere in the middle, but I usually wait a while in between projects because I have to forget my headaches before I will try it again!
ReplyDeleteI'm an experienced appliquer but I'm always interested in learning about new techniques.
ReplyDeleteAdvanced beginner - I know just enough to get by with simple shapes.
ReplyDeleteI'm advanced but always need to school myself when starting a new project to make my stitches perfect again.
ReplyDeleteI have made a few raw edge applique quilts but, have always used a fusible and I don't like the way it is a little stiffer than the rest. I also don't like how it frays no matter how tight a zig zag, I am very interested in seeing an alternative
ReplyDeleteAdvanced appliquer, but with arthritis I can no longer do as much as I want to do by hand. This would be a wonderful technique to learn.
ReplyDeleteI am an experienced appliquer, but love to learn new things. thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI'm as beginner as they come. I have pieces cut out for an applique quilt but am stuck there from fear. I have a hard time making the stiching look right.
ReplyDeleteI follow you blog. I'm from northern Colorado too and it's one of my goals to do a QOV in honor of my son serving in the Navy. Thanks for a great blog!
ReplyDeleteI've pieced lots of quilts but very little applique. This book and technique sound wonderful. refusestofear at yahoo dot com
