Quilt of Valor Quilt Show

I hope are ready for this weeks QOV inspirations!!

First off , I had a few questions about these quilts, so I thought I would try to explain it all.... The big reason I love to show off these quilts is they are gorgeous!

They are made with love and are intended to go to our military combat  veterans touched by war. I think they are worth showing off!! So much love and work goes into them, and sometimes we can't show you the recipients.

Not every Quilt of Valor is patriotic. And that's okay. I have been doing this now for 8 years, and my estimates show that 80% of the Veterans prefer Patriotic quilts, the other prefer something else. Plaids, Solids, Manly colors are always chosen. For the women - you may be surprised at this - but a lot of them really don't want girly quilts. I have found that those women still on post, or in a battalion, prefer less girly quilts. Those that have moved off post, or are in outpatient treatments - seem to go for more feminine quilts - interesting huh?

This quilt was pieced by Karen A in Oklahoma and quilted by Liz T-D in Colorado
The colors are really beautiful! I love the overall effect!

This quilt was pieced by Denise V in Colorado
and Quilted by Liz T-D in Colorado

Isn't that pattern cool? I know I have seen it somewhere but am not placing it ?
Is it the disappearing 4 patch ?

Love Love Love the horses....but you would know that if you knew I had 9 of them - right?

Another beauty Pieced and quilted by Liz T-D
We sure kept her busy didn't we?
She is a great asset to our QOV program

This is a HeartStrings Quilt Project Quilt top - quilted by Liz

I included a picture of the back of it, as I LOVED it!!! Isn't that a great texture for a quilt?

This quilt was pieced by the Miracles Rehabilitation Center, under the direction of Jessica. Jessica rocks - she is an awesome teacher, and I am so glad she joined in helping us cover our Veterans.

It was quilted by LT COL K. Tryon ... He was Air Force - a pilot - and now flys commercially and Quilts!! You HAVE to love a man that quilts right?  He and his wife are wonderful new additions to our Long Arm Recruits!!

The last quilt for today's show is one that the blocks were made at a sew day that I host here in Greeley. Joan took them home, and put them into a top, quilted it, bound it and brought it back!!

These quilts will be on their way very soon - in Colorado we cover the Warriors in Transition Battalion, 2 different therapy groups in the VA, an Equine Therapy Unit, as well as some individual requests.

If you have more questions - feel free to ask - I will share all that I know ( which may only take 40 seconds!!)   and Thank you for stopping by to see the latest Quilt of Valor Beauties!

  2. Definitely the disappearing four patch, our bee made that block earlier in the year. It was fun to make, but a little challenging to me. I find it hard to keep bigger pieces under control.
My sewing drought of the summer is over. I love your posts about the quilts, especially when we see the veterans wrapped in them. I sometimes think about the quilts I have made and hope they bring love to the hero who got it.
When I'm sewing with friends it always feels like an extra dollop of love becomes part of the quilt.

When I first saw the 2nd block (made by Denise V, CO) it was called "Plaid". I have made several of them, so quick and easy, especially after receiveing a bag loaded with remnants for QoV. Each block only takes a few inches of fabric. Phyllis K.
