The next step is to make strip sets of all of your strips. Each strip set needs to contain (2) 1 1/2 inch strips, and (3) 2 1/2 inch strips. I went ahead and layed each set out, just to make sure I had them all. In the scrappy version, I wanted to make sure I didn't get stuck with all 5 strips being the same color.
Then I layed them over my stack of *keep warm* quilts, because I could, and because it is my house and I am staking my place in it *giggle*
The next step was to sit down and sew - Sew the sets together using 1/4 inch seams. Each strip set should measure 8 1/2 inches wide. If they don't - check your seam allowances, your ironing, or eat more chocolate. Chocolate is the cure all.
Iron the sets. I ironed them to all one side.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, at Starbucks it's all about the coffee for me, but don't try that new Via (instant stuff) as it is nasty with a capital N!

Can you believe I've never been to a Starbucks? I'm going off to the sewing room right now to start sewing! Not sure how far I will get, but I'm at least going to try to get one strip set done tonight. I have Thursday and Friday off from school so hope to be caught up with everyone by then.
ReplyDeleteI just read your post on stashbusters. I am in the middle of 4 quilts, but would love to add another to the list. nalaxu@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteStarbucks? straight house brew - I do love chocolate, but not to drink!
ReplyDeleteHaven't started the mystery yet - but maybe this weekend - I have plenty of fabric to play with!
I admire your big heart and enthusiasm - thanks for sharing both with us! s_soape@yahoo.com
I don't have a blog so will communicate this way. I have just gotten here from WA to AZ for the winter. I plan on starting tomorrow. I love starbucks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all this with us.

I need to ask a question. When you sew your strip sets, the strips don't need to be in any order, do they? It looks from the picture that the strips are put together randomly, meaning by widths. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love strip piecing. I am working on a children's quilt right now. I do not have yardage of fabrics as I have left over binding to piece together.

I sewed my strip sets together last night. I kept my sets in order, with the 1 1/2 inch strips inbetween the 2 1/2 inch strips. Mine only came out 8 inches wide. I am a terrible presser and haven't figured out the 1/4 inch exactly I see. Lots of chocolate was consumed during the sewing of the strips :)
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know, I will be sewing and working on mine Thursday all day so haven't started. I am also waffling between this strippy rail and the NSTSP#2 that I have ALWAYS wanted to do......decisions, decisions.....
ReplyDeleteTake care and see you later!
Bari
Oh - I also know I am too late for the drawing so don't worry about that! I just wanted to tell you what I was up to.
