The Rabbit Hole - aka Jelly Roll 18

 Progress!!!

alright!! Truth time!!

I know this - but I never remember this - Jelly rolls - or Strip packs have 40 strips - NOT 42!!! So when I do my math - I am always wrong *ugh*

I can't quite make a 6 x 7 setting - with 40 strips - so I started thinking about stars - the ones from my happy half square project - specifically - Block 3 Block 3 pattern here

so I decided to make some and see what I think - here is where I am!!

Full disclosure - we also decided to do this Jelly Roll 18 block for our QOV sew day - and!! now!! we are going to add the stars - and it will be like Stars and Stripes!!!

my well has been fixed! thank you for the concern. When he fixed the well, he also chlorinated the well and the cistern. Safety precautions - but you know what? We don't like chlorinated water - it has a funny taste haha!! so we had to go buy some bottled water for us and the pups - until the chlorine runs its course.

  1. Sometimes jellyrolls do have 42 strips, sometimes 40 which can be frustrating. You think the manufacturers would be consistent!

We had to have our well water tested every 5 years since dairy farms produce a food product. We did have to chlorinate our well several times. I just turned on all the faucets in the house and barn and let them run for a half hour. I also did several loads of laundry. We don't live in a desert so this wasn't wasteful.. We don't like chlorinated water either.

  2. I like those added stars! Having a well is wonderful, but ugh on the chlorination. We have filters on our faucet as well as the water from our fridge so we don't have to drink "town water".

  3. Perfect idea to add the other blocks to break up the jelly 18 blocks.

  5. Adding the stars is a brilliant idea!!! I love the look of this design!
(we chlorinate our well in the Spring and have to wait for the 'taste' to clear up!)

  6. That is a neat design with the stars added in! Great idea to get to the size you want. So glad to hear about the well, too!

  7. Those stars were a great fix to the lack of strips! I like this pattern better! As for the chlorine, I hear you. Our water is also chlorinated and we filter it before we drink it. Glad your well is fixed and you have water for cooking and washing!

  8. I think your star idea is genius! Or maybe you are the genius for thinking about it. It's going to be great.

  11. The star blocks really work with those strip blocks. Sometimes necessity is the best motivation for innovation.
