The last part of the Soaking day found us Cave Tubing on the River - and Oh My Gosh - you all - we had to go into INTO a cave - it was dark and it was a CAVE
I am claustrophobic - and have not had good experiences in caves - but I was Game...... and was promised a glass of wine with dinner if I survived....
Another Conquering Fear Moment!!! We hiked about a mile up the river, thru the river and around the bend. The only thing we didn't see was Grandmothers house haha!!
You hike carrying your innertube and then.. he straps your tubes together .
This is an example - we were only three and our guide - senior - so 4 . He says that is a better number as he can take you to a few more spots to see the caves.
So this is the opening we were heading into. Of course, you know they put me in the middle again, and I had my phone in one of those waterproof bags, but the phone was still a little steamy from our ziplining, so the photos weren't super clear.
Also - I refused to let go of the handles of my tube.. so that makes it hard to take photos
We went into that!!! We did have headlamps - so that was nice, but it wasn't like flashlite. You saw the Stalactites and the other rock tites ( I can't remember the names) and also some hiking trails that they say the Mayan used to get to some of their special places.
When there was finally light at the end of the tunnel - I got brave and took a photo - then we made it out into the light and floated the river for a while - THAT was super cool too - its a rain forest!!
You all - I live on the DRY plains - the green here was AMAZING!
Look at all that green - even with my steamed up camera!!!
So we almost got a little drier in the river than we did with the Zip lining, until about 1 mile from the place we get out - and it started raining again....
So the boys - they had decided to wear their clothes on the river and change into their swin trunks on the way home - they were the lucky ones.
I couldn't do that - as I had worn my hiking pants and they were so soaked.. So !! I made a skirt out of a towel, put on my new ziplining t- shirt - and went home like that!
I should have taken a photo - but by then - I was just hoping to make it to the boat on time!!
We got back to our Casa and Dorita (our cook) Made K LOBSTER!!! He was in HEAVEN!!
Lobster season is July thru the end of February - so we made it just in time to actually have lobster that wasn't flown in from someplace - IT was amazing!!
And this .. was only Day 3 or our trip......
Can you handle more hah!!

I've never done cave tubing, only river, and the cave looks a bit daunting, so I'd be very glad to have the guide and the tubes all lashed together! But it looks like a great adventure. I'd love to have seen your towel skirt. :D Yes keep the photos coming!
ReplyDeleteWay to go! What a trip! That cook knew how to make meals that were super special!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun adventure, even with a bit of fog on the photos. I bet you all slept well after that day and dinner.
ReplyDeleteWonderful trip, I love seeing the sights and especially your happy excited faces.

Wow! Both the zip lining and the cave tubing sound like a wonderful adventure. I would have required more than 1 glass of wine at the end however.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure in the cave! Do you have to watch out for gators in the river? You are amazing!
