What a year it has been....
A while ago I started choosing a word to focus on for each year, and the word for 2023 was Joy. My Dad and I had started a Bible study on Joy, and then .. well Life Happened!! One year it was Balance, one year it was Enjoy.... One year Utilize....
Even with all the things that happened this year, I still think I did a Good job in Finding Joy in things. A few times it was a little challenging, but I like that having that word in the back of my mind changed my outlook a little.
I do miss my Mom and Dad a lot. And their house was ( well still is) a lot of work, I have tried to find the Joy in rereading some of the things they wrote, or giggling about finding 6 copies of the same book...or even cleaning a drawer and finding the Grocery list for the Last Thanksgiving my Mom hosted.
I do like the word Balance... as is finding a Balance between my Quilting, my Ranching, My QOVs, my Dog, My ... well everything haha!!
I also like the phrase - *Slow Down* As in take it easy, remember to find the Joy, read a book... its okay!!
I will ponder on a word/phrase today - do you have a Word or A Phrase that you will focus on in this coming year?
Happy New Year Alycia! Here’s to a better year and more balance in our lives.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Alycia! Balance is a great word for the new year. I wish you a happy and creative 2024!
ReplyDeleteLove that cartoon - lol! I really enjoy reading your posts (especially the QOV ones) and seeing your hiking photos on IG. I hope 2024 is a great year for you!
ReplyDeletegoing through your mom and dads items and finding something like a grocery list or the same book 6 times actually sounds like fun - remembering all the memories of things they did - Have a good and safe new year
ReplyDeleteI have decided to set my intention on my four core words - Scrappy, Eclectic, Liberated, and Colorful - a mantra that evolved early on as a quilt maker. If I focus on staying true to who I am as a maker, it will translate into all aspects of my life (improving my frequently fragile self confidence along the way, I hope). I like both of your words - Balance and Slow Down. They compliment each other!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to start a new book. I was going to say with a better beginning than last year, but it seems page one is going to be pretty close to the same, recovering from Covid. Oh well, at least I have consistency. Slow down is a great focus for 2024, it does seem you have so much going on lately. But as you say life happens and sometimes we don't get to control that. I'm borrowing on of your past words for 2024, Utilize. Mainly focusing on utilizing my time well. With an ageing parent, kid in grad school, working husband and lots of stuff the needs attention around the house, utilizing my time wisely this year, will make things easier next year. Happy 2024!
ReplyDeleteI have never used a word or phrase for a year, but I think that it could have a lot of benefit. I've been thinking lately that I would like to consciously think about being more playful... Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI like the words of the past and the words you are thinking about. I laugh at what you find in your Mom and Dad's things - and wonder what treasures I will leave behind. Tomorrow, I will write my goals...so we will see if a word comes into mind or what bubbles to the top of the list. Cheers to the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts. I think appreciate and gratitude would be wonderful focus words.
ReplyDeleteA very happy new year to you! I like the first pic and sentiment!
ReplyDeleteI don't use a focus word each year--I always try to live with gratitude and everything else just follows! lol
Looking forward to a new page for my 'book' of 2024!
Best of luck with the final decision on your word for 2024, Alycia. I choose not to select a Word of the Year. Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteI believe my word will be "work".
ReplyDeleteFor with enough work over the next 16 months, my mortgage will be PAID OFF. Then, many a happy dance will ensue.
Thank you for sharing so many beautiful quilts and wonderful pictures. Here's hoping you find great Joy in 2024!
I am leaning towards Balance. See what I did there :-D It could be Awe! But Aw Shucks may be more like it. Since I must remember to take more process pictures, it could be Process! Hmmm...Let's just say I am open to the possibilities. Love and Hugs. Those are always good words!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't normally pick a word but I am this year. My word is CELEBRATE. I want to remember when the chips are down and I'm feeling a little sad and blue about life's happenings that there are still lots and lots of things to CELEBRATE. I want to CELEBRATE! And dance to the music!
ReplyDeleteI am leaning towards balance... Oh no, looks like I leaned too much and fell off :-D May your new year be full of joy, peace and creativity!
ReplyDeleteI only chose a word one year. It was Progress. I did make progress that year.
