Rhubarb

My friend needed me to bring her a quilting supply, so when we went to get grain I made my husband swing by.... and he saw RHUBARB!!

He started talking with D about it, and then she said - would you come and pick it and take some of the plants home with you?  ( Please remember I am NOT the gardener of the family) K said yes!!

and so we found ourselves in a Rhubarb overload!!!

We picked the stalk's, we took some of the plants... Besides that box of Rhubarb - I had a black trash bag full of it.

I wasn't sure I Like Rhubarb ... I don't remember eating it - so I diced a bunch up and make a Crisp before moving on...

I liked it!!!!

So I canned Strawberry Rhubarb Pie filling, and Rhubarb plain, and Rhubarb Jam... and now... we are in Rhubarb overload.... If you say the word enough times - it starts to make you giggle!!!

  1. It is a funny looking and sounding word. I ate it as a kid in crisp and pie, but not sure I would eat it now.

  3. Growing, picking and eating Rhubarb brings back childhood memories. My dad always had a small patch of rhubarb in our backyard along with blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. Nothing taste better than garden grown produce.

  4. As a kid, we would take a cup of sugar out to the rhubarb patch and pick a stalk and dip it to eat raw--delightful!

  5. I don't know where I heard this, but someone once told me that extras in movies and TV are often just saying "rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb" back and forth to one another.

  8. Oh gosh I haven't had rhubarb since I was a kid! Our neighbors had some and I can remember eating it raw with sugar.

  9. We have rhubarb in our veggie patch - it seems to produce more and more each year. The family enjoy stewed rhubarb with custard and I always like to make rhubarb and apple crumble for dessert, beautiful with either cream or plain old custard.Rhubarb and Apple Jam is a regular on our supermarket shelves.

I have a great Cherry - Rhubarb pie from DD#1. I always freeze at least one of them for winter.
