is not as easy as you would think - especially when they want you in the photos as well... but you are the one taking the photos....
We do a cool feeding program for our beef - in that we have contracted with some local breweries to use their spent grains.
When they brew their beer they are using Barley, Wheat, Rye, and sometimes Corn ( one of the breweries does a low gluten beer) ... but when they are done getting all the good stuff for beer out of it:
The grain remains. It is still really good to use as a feed, and has a great protein content. It also makes our cows happy....
But!! Trying to get photos of them eating it - with us in the same photo, when you are the one operating the camera - is a challenge!!
Especially since Milkshake thinks she should get neck rubs and does not herd like cattle... she likes to follow you
And then they won't look at you when you want them too
Kittie wanted to help - and he kept thinking he could push the camera button, but he was just a little to small!!
So you do what all good Photographers would do.... you make a collage... and that way no one laughs at all your outtakes.... including the one where the cow tries to eat your hair.....
And now they ( the brewery) has a photo they can use for an Ad ( You hope!!!)- well the top photo - I added Pig just for me!!!

That is too funny! My son brewed beer and the spent grains are a hefty mess but its so cool that you get some from a local brewery! Herding cats may be easier than herding cows for a photo shoot!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to help out the brewery AND your cattle! Too funny about the photo shoot. Great post.
ReplyDeleteFascinating - do you have to go to the brewery to pick up regularly, or.....? I always like to know the logistics.

Are the cattle a little happier after eating the spent grains? Enjoyed the photos. I can only photograph my kitty when she is sleeping because otherwise she is just a blur. Do you have any sheep? I always had a dream of living/working in a barn and having some sheep. That is what you dream of growing up down the street from a steel plant in a crummy little 50s ranch.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful animals. You must take wonderful care of them. Kitty would agree
ReplyDeleteNow that's a freat recycling program!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the caching cat
ReplyDeleteSuch fun photos! Oh the machinations we go through to get a good (decent?) photo. It's good to hear that the left overs from beer making go someplace besides the trash.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot from this post! Loved the pics, thanks!
ReplyDeleteWho knew cows would be so hard to photograph. I guess they don't like selfies with the one holding the camera? What a fun post!
ReplyDeleteSweet pictures, Alycia. Love the selfies with the cows!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear about the good stuff you manage to get from the breweries.
I thoroughly enjoyed this post. ❤️
Have a great week ahead!
How cool to use all the leftovers as feed. I love hearing about stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the piggy picture.
