Our guild had a zoom presenttion with the *stash bandit!!* and it was really fun. If we couldn't have an in person meeting - why not an online one. She was so inspirational and talked a lot about using scraps - it was quite fun....
So the next day - I realized I had a batik honeybun sitting right next to my cutting table - and I thought - Heck Fire!! I am going to start making this little windy windmill blocks that she showed us!
And I did... and I promptly remembered her saying - you can turn them the wrong way - be careful.....
Their Number is slowly growing - but they are kinda fun to work on.....

The blocks that are turned the 'wrong' direction will fit in with the blocks, their seams are not in the same place! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteThose are part of the design element. Hey, done is done!
ReplyDeleteI've got several of those windmills up on my design wall that have been languishing for quite some time. I DID learn the hard way that there is a 'right' way and a 'wrong' way to put them together but, like you, they stay as they lay!! Someday they'll be a donation quilt!
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt like that and really had to watch myself--though, if you make enough of them both ways, it doesn't glare as a mistake! Very pretty in batiks!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Alycia!! Those Windy Windmills would have to blow whichever way the wind blew.
ReplyDeleteHi Alycia, Stash Bandit here. Thank you for the nice shout-out and the link to my website! I'm so happy to see that you're making Baby Windmills. They look great! You just can't go wrong with scrapping it up. Thanks again for your kind words. I'll enjoy visiting your blog often!

I’ve also made windmills that blow the ‘wrong’ way learning the hard way that it makes a difference when you construct the block. I also kept them in my quilt and called it: As the Wind Blows!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on my Round Robin and I have already put a color in the wrong place. But who cares, it's only a mistake I will know about. It's your vision, do whatever you want! Oh, and I always do the log cabin first 2 sides wrong!!! EVERY TIME!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see those Bandit 'windmills', I think of high kicking dancers. Or, in your neighborhood, maybe boot scootin' boogiers. Yes, the windmills I've observed, do turn to face the wind. So, whirl away and give us an "ai-yee' when you fly by.
ReplyDeleteThey may be blowing the wrong way, but they look great. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteCute windmill blocks! There always has to be one or two in a project like this, but honestly, I hadn’t noticed until you mentioned it.

Oh, I really like them kinda grouped by color. The different direction just ads character!
ReplyDeleteA very fun new project. Any Way the Wind Blows would be a great name for that quilt.
