They got up early and headed up the mountain to a place called Silver Plume.
They then hiked from Sliver Plume to Georgetown ( about 4 miles)
and then they caught the Georgetown Loop Steam train back to Silver plume -
and the girl was in Love.... and the girl is going to have a really really really hard time choosing just a few photos to share..... but you will still like her right???
Welcome to engine 111 of the Georgetown Loop Railroad! It was so cool watching it pull into the station - I was immediately enthralled!
And the Engineer - he really did smile after he heard me clapping like a kid - but - you can't clap and take pics at the same time.
Anyone here a fan of Sandra Dallas Books? She writes * The Brides House* *Prayers for Sale* and a lot more - and she talks about this area - so you know I had to go!!
We started hiking from Silver Plume and went thru this really cool cemetery - I could have been there a few hours - the headstones just drew you in.
How many headstones do you see that has the ages of the deceased
And how young they were.... Oh man
As we were hiking the train that works on the rails came thru
Can you see the engineers - their beards!!!
and in color - just cuz I know Joy will want to see color ;-)
Plus - It was really really really pretty!
Some of the old cars
And check that out
I got to the edge of the track and the train Steamed
I LOVED it!
I found Santa!
I am pretty sure he was checking out the area
seeing as how he will be back for the Santa Ride later!
The conductor
He came by to stamp our tickets
This is the big bridge
I think its called the Big Loop
It was completed in 1884
and it was cool
Another of the train
it was just a cool trip
and I have more photos
So maybe.... maybe I will make another post
Just to annoy you ;-)

We took that train the last time we were in Colorado. I am old enough to remember active steam trains. Love 'em!
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing day.
ReplyDeleteLoved it. Those old trains are awesome. We have lots here in GA even an outdoor museum of old trains.
ReplyDeleteWow, just amazing. I have been on a steam train, very short special run, here in Buffalo, but not scenery like that. Congratulations on the day and your birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday! It looks like you chose the perfect way to spend it too! Spent lots of time on trains in Europe as a kid, but that was forever ago. Hoping to take a trip on one in northern NM some fall. Trouble is, it always falls during our fall cow works.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this!! I am forwarding it to our daughter and family who live in Aspen. Sounds like a great weekend trip for them.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very Happy Birthday!! Awesome pictures too. Carlie
ReplyDeleteWe rode the Georgetown Loop Steam train about 30 years ago. We love old steam trains. Yes, Colorado has some absolutely gorgeous scenery. Thanks for posting your pictures - they are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteI can smell it! I can hear it! I can feel it rumble. I've loved trains since I was a little girl. There's a train excursion on Mt. Rainier, but that is on the 'wish' list. I've been on the one in Virginia City, NV, and the one north of here out of Ione/Metaline Falls, just miles from the Canadian border.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, that was a good birthday present. And pizza too. Congrats.
Oh Wow! This is very cool. Great photos too. Happy belated birthday!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed your photos. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteA most excellent way to celebrate a birthday!! Gorgeous photos instead of excess presents. Yes!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! What a fun day. I love train rides (none around here since the metra doesn't count).
ReplyDeleteI like your point of view, so bring on the photos. :-) A birthday adventure, I love those. Cheers to you!
ReplyDeleteYou can never annoy me with posts about trains, or about cemeteries. Both fascinate me, for entirely different reasons. Every summer, my husband and I used to train chase the Chama to Antonito steam train - officially known as the Cumbres-Toltec. We even took the train once. =) I have spent hours in cemeteries, making rubbings, taking photos, reading tombstones. So, yes, please, could I have some more? LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I'm so glad you had a great day. I hadn't heard of this train. Next time I'm out west in the summer or fall, I'll have to look it up.
Some folks may like you and others may love you but Sheldon Cooper wants to marry you. He has finally found his match in you for his love of trains.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if these men - engineers, conductors etc. are really as handsome as your gorgeous photographs make them look.
Belated Happy Birthday, dear friend. You deserve to be spoiled.
My first thought was the Durango to Silverton train!!! But then I remembered you live way north. If you've never done that one, give it a ride someday. So BEAUTIFUL!! Is it really dry up by you? We were in Pagosa last week and it's SO DRY!! Great pix and a fun day for you..YAY!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of fun! I know I would have loved it.
ReplyDeleteI do live and miss the old trains.
Oh how exciting to see such fabulous old steam train, I think I would want to clap too. That bridge looks rather scary though! I too, can't help but stop and look at the stones in the cemetery. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I love trains! And it is so cool that you took some of these in black and white - makes me feel like I am back in 1884! Wonderful series of pictures!
ReplyDeleteWe like you even more for posting all the photos. The colours are amazing, and I love the BW ones too. I wonder if the trained steamed for you! What a great birthday celebration. I hiked for my birthday too :)
ReplyDeleteA Very Happy Belated Birthday to you!!
Thanks so much again for linking up on Wandering Camera!
