I am so excited to announce this years Block Drive Block!!! It was created by Jan O who blogs over at The Colorful Fabriholic AND!!! She has an awesome book out - which I have loved making quilts from!!!
Here are the blocks we are going to make - there are two colorways -
1. A little bit of color,
2. A lot of color:
So here is the pattern: ( and the details are at the end)
This is going to make TWO 9 inch ( 9 1/2 inch unfinished) Blocks - 1 Little color, and 1 lot of color
(ps - those are technical terms - ha ha!)
Materials and Cutting:
From left to right
1 - 2in x 9 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 in x 8 inch strips
1 - 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strip
1 - 7 inch square of Colored Fabric
1 - 7 inch square of Light Fabric
1 -2 in x 6 1/2 inch strip
2 - 2 inch x 8 in strip
1 - 2 inch x 9 1/2 inch
Step 1: Mark the light side with a diagonal line - and stitch 1/4 inch on each side of the diagonal
Slice open and press
This should measure 6 1/2 inches
Then take your 2 inch x 6 1/2 inch strips and add to the sides as shown
We build these sort of like a log cabin
Take one of your 2 inch x 8inch strips and add to the next side
press and add your second 2 inch x 8 inch Strip
This quilt below is the mock up of the light colored block
I am still working on a stitched version of the dark colored block quilt
but! I ran out of time - you all understand right???

ReplyDeleteI will see what I can do --- have the directions printed ....
ReplyDeleteLooks good to me! I will be right there with you making lots of blocks.
ReplyDeleteFirst 12 blocks done (see IG feed). More to come!!
ReplyDeleteLove, love the layout you did. It is so unique and fresh and strong.
ReplyDeleteOh! I really like the quilt plan you shared with us. Here's hoping that I can manage to get some blocks done!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the block on Jan's blog earlier today. I like the colored version and may actually have the scraps to make that one. I don't have a lot of neutrals unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteThis pattern looks like it will make beautiful quilts. How wonderful you are to do this for our veterans.
ReplyDeleteI have 50 made so far. They are very addictive. I think I just may put a light top together. Cannot wait to see what you come up with for the dark ones.
ReplyDeleteI will see what I can do, we have a local VA hospital in the next town. I would love to be able to make one or two of these beautiful quilt patterns for these deserving men!
ReplyDeleteI love making patriotic quilts so I will send some blocks to you this week. Thanks for doing this.
ReplyDeleteMailed my blocks and some patriotic fabric today. Hope your block drive is going well!
