Children

My youngest son is working on a research report. He does not like to work.... or write... when he is told to, only when he *wants* to....

Yesterday we were working on outlines, and he was supposed to write his conclusion. I don't know if you can read this - but he decided that he would write the conclusion when he was writing the essay.

I think he MISSED the point, so I made him go back and write some type of conclusion. It is still not acceptable, BUT

Look what he drew for me! Do any of you read Stephen Pastis' cartoons - Pearls Before Swine? My children love them... but look.... "what you know - you quilt"   I cracked up!!!

Little does he know what he will be RE-Writing today!!

and people tell me that boys are  so much easier.....

  1. This made me completely crack up! I love Pearls Before Swine and his little Gator cartoon.. oh my gosh! So funny!

My girl was MUCH easier than either of the boys. Our boys had such wild mood swings during puberty and the girly was always so mellow and level headed. Don't get me wrong, she got sassy once in a while but NOTHING like the boys. Everyone always says boys are easier so I wonder if mine were an anomaly. :D

  2. That's too funny! Be sure to let him know that even though it 'doesn't work', it was pretty clever! Build his confidence!

  4. *Snort* Getting boys to write is like pulling teeth...without Novocaine. Can't blame him for inserting a bit of humor into what otherwise would be a horrendous assignment. :) I always hated making outlines. I couldn't write from them. My best work always just poured out the very first time so I always wrote the paper first and then went back and made an outline if it was required. Couldn't write rough drafts either. Cheering him on!

  6. Hey, he made you laugh and gave you something to log about. Doesn't that count for something?

  7. Do you homeschool? I HS'ed my son for 10 years (ages 4-14). I finally gave up on the composition thing at about 3rd grade. It wasn't worth the hair or nails I was losing! LOL!

Fast forward to now. He's 14, at community college, taking Comp 1 this semester and getting an A so far. ;-)

So I know where you're coming from. The crazy thing with my son is that he could *tell* a story in amazing detail, or dictate one to me. But give him a pen or pencil and forget it!

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. LOL. Mine will not write with a pencil, but give her the computer and she'll write a short novel!

  9. Maybe as a reward for doing a good job on his essay redo you could send him to an art class. It looks like he has some talent!
