Here are the two I cam home with - the Red one is now on my design wall so I can figure out how I want to finish it, and the Red White and Blue one was made by Harriett. I am going to add some borders to it too....
My plan on this red one is to add a small white border, and a larger blue border.
I have a plan for this one too - but its too early in the morning to think if it will work or not.
And here is how they came together:
Janet made one long long strip, and it got a little turned, so Mary helped her get it straightened,
Charolett working hard on her strips.
Janets strips coming together to a top,
Joan almost finished with hers....
Ethel ironing... she beat me - I was trying to sew the fastest - but alas - I am not quick at all!
Harriett - our fearless leader - she has made a few of these, so she was the teacher. A very good one too I might add.
These were really really fun and everyones will look a little different. We took them home to put some borders on and I will show them to you again when they are all done. Some of the Jelly rolls weren't enough fabric, so a few turned out thinner, but thats alright - it will add to the variety.
For that lady that did this quilt in 35 minutes... I totally respect her. Mine took me the whole 3 hours, and I tried to stay in my chair the WHOLE time. I am not sure I have ever sat that long!!
Now - go check out all the other design walls - I have already been dreaming on the quilts this morning!
Jelly roll races... how cool is that! Y'all got a lot done and I'm sure you had fun!
ReplyDeleteI want to make a jelly roll race quilt top and I will... just think it would be more fun with a group.
Thanks for sharing the photos...
what a great project. Hum, I think I will share the idea of jelly roll races for my quit group. If we didn't use jelly rolls how many strips would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of jelly roll races. What an excellent way to get a group of quilters going on a project.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, did all the jelly rolls you cut get used up?
ReplyDeleteohhh...now I want to make a red one! I also took longer than 35 minutes~maybe about 4 hours. :) looking forward to *see* the border treatments. very nice!
ReplyDeleteSewing with friends, racing with friends, sounds fun! I have seen this technique on other blogs but never imagined someone could do one in 35 minutes! I'm not fast either :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. I am trying to get my bee to do this one day soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat. To get together with friends and do something you love for people so deserving. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLooks like lots of fun! There is no way I would be able to make a top in 35 minutes...I'm way too slow!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great project--especially for a group. My on-line group raced our jellyrolls a couple of weeks ago--what a hoot!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of fun and what a great way to get some charity quilts done!
ReplyDeleteI don't know; I am seriously doubting that someone did this quilt in under an hour. It took me an hour just to sew the strips end to end (o wait; I actually cut each strip in half first, to give it more visual interest). The next step, matching the ends to make it a two-strip-wide piece, took me 40 minutes all by itself...
ReplyDeleteIt took me 2 hours and 45 minutes, I used 53 strips because I wanted it to be big. I still can't believe that 35 minutes one! I'm making a few changes next time and going to do the "old fashioned" thing of pressing after each seam. It will keep things from getting so tangled, I hope.
ReplyDeleteLooks like great fun. The red and the red/white/blue look great.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try making one of these...just need to get cutting ( I procrastinate cutting jobs!)
ReplyDeleteI love these quilts. I am on the lookout for jelly rolls on sale (don't usually buy them) so I can made a few of these quilts for comfort quilts: they seem to turn out just the right size for kids.
ReplyDeleteSo what # of strips made the most usable size top? JoAnne said 53. Lights and darks? One color family? What do you think turned out best?
ReplyDeleteI am using Anonymous as I don't have a Google account yet. My name is Jan. I think the red, white and blue one, which looks a bit narrow, would look great with a row of stars on one long side (use the "One Star" pattern), then it will only need binding after quilting!!! Jan
