Learning a New Technique

Saturday we had a workshop with Carla J, and she was amazing. She taught a new to me technique of piecing, and I really enjoyed it.

It wasn't paper piecing, and it wasn't applique - but others in our group who had done that type of work were able to draw from that experience. I haven't done any Paper Piecing and VERY LITTLE applique - so I was the newbie

We gathered supplies, and we were supposed to bring freeze paper... so I brought something that I thought was freezer paper - but!! Did you know that Parchment Paper and Freezer Paper are not the same thing?   I do now!!!  My Friend Cindy had extra so I was all good!

We did some Drawing and some fabric choosing... and then we got to work...

This is my FIRST Curved seam of the day - and heck fire - if it just didn't turn out so nice!!

I then learned to match and pin - and!! Got half of my leaf done.  I kind of like it. It does take a long time though, and now I have some wonky cuts out my fabric  - but I think I will survive.

it was a long day - and when I got home... my babies needed to nap....
And give me grief for not being with them all day. In my defense.... K was home, and Lil Bit showed up later - so they weren't REALLY alone.... they just made me feel SOOO guilty!!

Sunday was Mothers day and lookie here - I made out like a bandit!! haha Mothers day Morning was spent in the Urgent care, someone had a little accident Thursday, and Saturday night her foot swelling had not gone down and the pain had gotten worse so her son and her spouse made her go to urgent care,

The doc in urgent care was the nicest I have ever met, He gave me a shot of tramadol (pain meds) right away and I might have fallen in love right there. I have never had that before, and I rarely take any pain meds - so it worked quite well.

Anyways - there is a reason I was in pain... I broke my foot... so! Sometime this week I get to go to the ortho to learn about what is next - other than the pretty black boot they put me in. He did tell me that I need to expect at least 6-8 weeks to fully heal... has he not met my dogs????

We walk a good 5-7 miles a day.... how???

Ah well - Lil Bit brought me quilt magazines and he got me the one that Carole ( From My Carolina Home )   has a QOV pattern in!! I was so excited... its like he read my mind when he saw the patriotic Quilts.....

  6. At least you had family with you at the Urgent Care! Sorry about the broken foot- you will need to follow directions and give it time to heal so that it doesn't end up worse and not better at the end of the 8 weeks!!!!

  9. I hope you have a good story to go with how you broke your foot so you can share it while you recover. I'm glad your hubby and son "encouraged" you to seek care and that the pain medication worked so well, The doggies will adapt.

  10. Oh yeah (not) - a boot (and/or a cast) . . . Huge hint - do you know about the EVEN UP shoe lift for the opposing foot so you don't walk lopsided for all those weeks? I used one over my right shoe after the foot surgery and it make a HUGE difference for my back/hip/knee on the non-surgical side. (check Amazon - that's where I bought mine)

  11. Oh no! A broken foot is hard to make up for on Mother's Day but it sounds like your guys did it. Sorry you ended up joining me on the injured list. Hope you can at least sew!

  12. Not sure how a knee scooter would work with the dogs but so much better than crutches! Maybe a tri-bike? Hope you feel better soon!

  14. however did you break your foot? do you mean like a stress fracture in one spot or multiple bones? and yes if you need to wear a black boot it will make you uneven in your walking and stress your hip if you do not have a shoe with the sole the same size get a "even up" from amazon so you won't be lopsided -otherwise strain is put on your hip and you will be in pain from that - take it from me I do know I'm an expert after wearing a boot multiple times.

  15. So sorry about your broken foot. Maybe since you'll have to stay off it for awhile, it'll give you more time to sew? ;-) Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  16. Happy Mother's Day! Bummer on that broken foot! I remember being in a walking boot when I broke mine many years ago but don't remember how long. It was winter and was a hassle trying to keep it dry after walking outside every day.
