Ohhh heck fire - I have been on a roll... that I know it about to stop - but seriously!!!
I now have 10 blocks completely done!!!! As I was stitching them I didn't know if I liked them, I put them up on the design wall and went to make dinner... and then looked at them from far away! And! I do like them!

We then had to take a break and go for a walk - we waled about 3 miles and smelled all sorts of new smells for fall...
Thanksgiving is coming up - what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? Anything I could make with zucchini?

My favorite non-traditional Thanksgiving dish is hominy casserole made with green chilies, Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream and both white and yellow hominy…..don’t think it will work for zucchini though :-(
ReplyDeleteThose are very attractive blocks! What fun to take 3-mile walk with those pups. Here is my favorite squash casserole. I had it at Cleburne Cafeteria when we lived in south Texas and I worked near downtown Houston. I could've eaten it every day. This recipe makes a bunch:
ReplyDeleteCleburne Cafeteria Squash Casserole
8 to 10 servings
10 medium yellow squash, sliced
1 to 2 tablespoons oil
1 yellow onion, chopped
6 medium eggs, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon each: salt & black pepper
40 (about) saltine crackers (1 stack pack), crushed
3 tablespoons melted margarine
Drop squash into small amount of boiling water. Cook, covered, until crisp-tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Drain well. In skillet, heat oil and sauté onion; add to squash with eggs, sugar, salt, and pepper; mix well.
Heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 if using a glass dish). Prepare 9X13 casserole dish with baking spray or butter and place squash mixture in it. Mix crackers and butter and sprinkle over squash. Bake 30-35 minutes. Serve hot.
Oh shoot, I just noticed it was zucchini that you have an abundance of, so just tuck that Cleburne Cafeteria away for yellow squash - lol! I have nothing except zucchini bread for zucchini!

ReplyDeleteYour Ringo Lake blocks are looking good. No good recipes for zucchini at our house. We have broiled in the oven and then mixed it with olive oil and basil, that's pretty good.
ReplyDeleteA brisk fall walk with the dogs sounds awesome. Your blocks are looking good. I think I have 1 or 2 of these in the orphan block box as I just didn't get very far that year. A favorite Thanksgiving dish for me is dressing, especially my son-in-law's recipe. And gravy - as long as it is NOT milk gravy.
ReplyDeleteOn Ringo Lake is one of the tops I have in the "to be quilted" pile. I think my garden only gave me 4 zucchini this year, I like to slice them lengthwise, drizzle on balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and grill on the bbq. You could likely do that in the oven. Remove the seeds for bigger squash.

ReplyDeleteOh the stop and smell routine. Small dog, just around the block takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on what attracts her. Favorite T-Day food would be some great mashed potatoes with a homemade gravy.

I think your blocks are really pretty - I love those colors together! My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is the turkey - and turkey sandwiches and turkey soup and... :) No good ideas about your zucchini, but I hope you will share what you come up with!
