Fire Breaks

Two Years ago  this happened:

You can read about it in more detail

and here:

And we felt very blessed because we had just had a 100 ft strip re planted - so the growth was minimal, and we had just cleaned out fences.... but! Fire is Fire and it can lay to rest your best laid plans.

Saturday and Sunday last weekend - I got up and started mowing fire breaks again.  It's hard to see - our weather turned hot on us and just burned up the early spring grasses. The browner it looked - the more nervous I got.

So I used my new mower on the back of the tractor - It was actually pretty fun! My old mower ( which I still use for detail work) only mowed an 24 inch path - my New Mower - 6 FOOT!!!! Whoop Whoop!!

Took me 2 hours to do what used to take me 3 days! ha ha!

Then When I came in on Saturday - my Facebook Memories showed me the Fire Pics - and I thought - Dang!! I was thinking!!!

I did the east pastures Saturday - the West on Sunday, and we had already practiced on the South pasture when I got the new mower ( that's the red thing back there)

I notice that when I take photos of myself - my tongue is always sticking out.... Is that because I have to concentrate so hard to remember how to do a selfie????

Hard to fathom taking care of so much land. It seems to go on forever. I have a 55 x 140 lot. Big difference. Hopefully no fires this year- enough trouble already.

Six feet! You could do our yard in two minutes! Fingers crossed that the fires stay away this year.

Ha! It's hard to get a good selfie! Good work on pre-empting the fire season!

Wow. Hopefully you won't have a repeat this year. Have fun with the new mower. ☺

When I saw that black background and the tell tale red glow in the thumbnail on my sidebar, my heart sank.
So glad it was just a memory and that you are on top of things should nature have another try.

Being prepared is ALWAYS a good thing. I've seen fires in the chaparral in southern California and how fast they can move. Scary.

Good job!

Prayers for no repeat scenarios. We've been inundated by cooler-than-normal temps and an over-abundance of rain here.

I hope there isn't the same threat this year. I can't imagine seeing a wall of flames that.

Kudos on a brain thinking to the future! We used to have 3 or so acres, some trees but lots of grass. I was allowed to mow with the old ride on but when a new one came along - nope, no more mowing allowed. It didn’t bother me much to tell the truth. More quilting time.

It does get dry so fast. It seems like it went from wet spring weather to sunny and hot in just a day. Glad you've been able to get your fire breaks in. How often do you have to re-mow them?

That 6 foot mower is worth every penny over the 24" one. Hope you didn't have any fires.
