Churndashes

You may have figured out, just by the sheer amount of them, that I may have chosen the churndash block as my block of the year....

I am not sure really how that happened - but I am just loving how fun and easy they are to put together, and I can use them as a leader ender for every other project...... and well....

They are Churndashes! You have to love them.

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colors earlier in the year were purple and teal/sea green.

I decided it was time to put those blocks to use!

I stuck them all to my design wall
and realized I would be one green block short.

After searching my lime Green bin ( it was sort of empty)
I re Stuck them to my design wall

and learned I would be one purple block short.
so I thought I should run to the Quilt shop!!!

and my frugal son said
Mom - I see purple in one of your fabric bins.

and I said - yes - but I can't reach it, so I should go to the store
and him, being soooo very tall - reached it...

and I wasn't allowed to go to the store
( True Story)

So I made that purple block in the bottom Right Corner
and am starting to stitch the rows together.

Oh!!
And this is why I got to stitch!
We rounded up animals to keep the a little dry
and we stayed inside
Snow! in May!
you gotta love it!

and 3 days later
We let the horses back out in the cold wind and look at them - goofy animals!

Love the green and purple together. I think Churndash is my favorite block ... or maybe it's Ohio Stars or ... I'm so fickle.

Nice save, tall boy!! Quilt turning out nicely, Alycia. The plain blocks work well (even though I expected to see half Churn Dash blocks.)

What are they doing? Horsing around??? Har har.

Send son on an errand next time so you have to go to the store. Tsk they're helpful at the wrong times sometimes! Lol

The teal/sea green/purple churn dashes look wonderful together! I really like those colors! We got 6 inches of snow up here in Loveland. Crazy May weather!

Those colors blend well together. Makes a great top. I still have some churns to make for my project from last year - I was certain colors short...green wasn't one of them. lol

Lime and purple are one of my favorite color combinations. Good for your eagle-eyed son to help you bust stash rather than add to it.

I might have bopped a son on the noggin'....sometimes a girl really needs a trip to the quilt store. But a finished top is good, too, and this one looks great!

I love your bright green and purple churn dash blocks together! This quilt shouts summer to me. My daughter would have done the same thing your son did. Too cute. :)

Children can be too helpful when you don't want them to and not so much when you do want them to. I love churn dash blocks, one of my favorites. Thanks for participating in Design Wall Mondays.

This is going to be a great quilt. Just wanted to let you know your scraps arrived safe and sound, and I am looking forward to playing with them.

I've been wondering about Fabio and Farrah.

Since Mr. Long Arms saved you the time it took to go to the fabric store and let you sew, he must have done your chores for you, right? Is he around when you need something off of the back of the top shelf?

In a couple of years, you won't have him around to remind you to "bust your stash". Instead you will be baking cookies to send him at college.

What a bright and fun quilt. Good thing you have tall children! LOL.

Snow in May??? Send some our way. It's already too hot here for me.

Love the blocks and the color palette. Sorry you didn't get to go to the quilt shop, but it has to feel good to use up a few more scraps.

Hi Alycia,
I have never made a churndash block, and you are motivating me to change that. It's a churndash challenge! I was just trying to figure out what kind of block to make for my nephew who wants a "blue" queen size quilt to replace his previous one that is in tatters. Perhaps it will be a churndash quilt. ~smile~

Don't you love it when your DH or child shows some interest in your quilting? It happens so rarely around here that I cherish it. So glad your son could help even though it meant you had to stay home.

Does the fact that I've never made a Churndash block exclude me from your pool of friends? I have no idea why I haven't - they are charming and those greens and purples look great together.
What ARE you going to do when the tall children venture out into the world? I was always pretty tall growing up, but my children make me feel like a midget so I get it. :)
